Forgotten Forest
An enchanted wood that neighbors Falandore. The true name of the Forgotten Forest is Witchwood. It is purported that its trees are constantly shifting, and reported that some adventurers wander its paths forever. Literal ghost stories surround the forest, and many spirits can be found within.
The path continues for many miles without bend. Then, suddenly, it veers dramatically westward. Convinced that you are being led back toward Falandore, you decide to retrace your steps. Walking backward along the same trail, however, leads unexpectedly to a dead end. An impenetrably thick line of trees blocks your path. You decide to continue along your original route, but the trail is again disrupted within a few miles. It seems that, in every direction, you are surrounded by trees. As a breeze heaves through their branches, you hear a strange murmuring. It is as if the woods themselves have come alive. - Tome of Encounters (RPA-ADV7)

Relations
The draw of riches invites many a treasure hunter to enter the Forgotten Forest, only to find themselves lost in the wood forever without outside aid;
Rumors of vast ruins and hidden treasure have sent seventeen would-be adventurers into the Forgotten Forest in the past week alone. We have managed to locate twelve, and only after a great deal of time and effort. I am not hopeful about the others. - Lady Dorothea Duntum, Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)
The paths of the Forgotten Forest are everchanging, almost as if the trees themselves were alive;
Every cartographer in Falandore has, at one point or another, requested to see the map of the Forgotten Forest so that they might copy it for their own collections. I try to explain to them that the ink on the parchment is never dry. The woods are restless, and, as the trees shift their positions, the map must also change. Any copy would merely be a snapshot in time. - Lady Dorothea Duntum, Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)
Signposts left by other explorers may help guide the way, if able to be interpreted;
There are small wooden signs nailed to many of the oak trees along the way, but you can’t make any sense of them. Some point left or right, but others point upward toward the sky or down to the ground. A few are engraved with strange symbols: a flame, an owl, an eye, or a sword.
As you examine the signposts further, a few things become clear. The reason you are being led in circles is because the path moves. The signposts are not just indicating directions, but also times of day. The flame symbol is meant to represent the sun. When the sign itself points upward and contains the flame symbol it is referring to midday, when the sun is directly overhead. It seems the paths move in regular patterns, patterns that someone once charted and marked with these signs. - Tome of Encounters (RPA-ADV7)
It becomes clear that the forest has a mind of its own, and is more than willing and capable to defend itself;
You attempt to clear a path, but as you hack your way through, the trees begin to fight back with a frenzied rage. The branches close in, blinding you. You feel a vine begin to wrap around your leg. - Tome of Encounters (RPA-ADV7)

Expedition to Northeastern Sector C11
We’ve been traveling in circles for weeks. The villagers warned there is deep magic at work in these woods but, like a fool, I ignored them. The trees, the stones, even the rivers seem to move when we are not looking. When we pass a “new” landmark, I often comment that I cannot remember whether or not I have seen it before. My companions have taken to calling this place “the forgotten forest,” a joke meant, no doubt, at my expense. I only hope that whatever secrets these woods hold will, in the end, make our efforts worthwhile. - Graylox, Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)
