The illuminating stone has a befuddling effect on the Ghost-Eaters;

History
According to Lady Dorothea Duntum, the illuminating stone is an ancient relic with a relationship to Castle Carleval, originally found in the Underwater Caverns beneath the Forgotten Forest.
I have collected every book that I can find that mentions the illuminating stone. It is claimed that the stone is older than recorded history. Like all magical artifacts, there are legends that trace all the way back to Azema the Benevolent, who formed Ulos with her own breath, drawing energy from each of the primal Planes.
We’ve tried every form of magic known to Nalos and nothing works. Without the illuminating stone, the map to Castle Carleval remains a blank piece of parchment. The two items must share a history.
The map to the Forgotten Forest has been passed down through my family for generations. Without the illuminating stone, it appears to be simply a blank sheet of parchment. It is only when held beneath the stone’s true light that the map to Castle Carleval reveals itself.
All lights reveal truths that would otherwise be hidden. The illuminating stone simply reaches further into the darkness than others. I can see why the allure of finding another like it led my father to open the mines. - Lady Dorothea Duntum, Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)
Effects
The illuminating stone can temporarily project memories of a space, or reveal things that cannot be seen;
You shine the illuminating stone’s light around the town of Falandore. For a moment, each of the ghosts appears as they did when they were alive. They laugh, dance in the streets, and talk merrily amongst themselves as if engaged in some elaborate seasonal celebration. But soon the light fades and you again find yourself wandering among the dead.
You shine the illuminating stone’s light on your new companion. For a brief moment, it looks as though the pig is wearing a sparkling emerald green dress, but when the light fades, its skin is bare.
You cast the light of the illuminating stone over the music box and see something you had not noticed before: a series of magical runes scratched onto the bottom, so small that they are barely legible. You are unable to decipher them. - Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)
It will also show objective truth, but not necessarily the circumstances surrounding them;
My great-grandfather took the stone to the Battle of Cutty’s Landing. He used its true light to reveal which of his companions were marked for death, but when he discovered he was among them, he abandoned his post. Three days later, he was beheaded for high treason. - Lady Dorothea Duntum, Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)
Map of Carleval
The illuminating stone is partnered with the old parchment to pinpoint the path to Castle Carleval.
Interestingly, the map itself seems to possess magical properties of its own;
You take out the piece of parchment and dip it into the river just to see if anything happens. Oddly, the paper does not appear wet. In fact, it is completely unchanged. - Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)
Lady Dorothea Duntum notes the significance of the map in her diary;
It is strange to think that so much depends on this single scrap of paper. If we were to lose the map to the castle, then we would never be able to find our way back again. I fear nothing more than being lost in these woods. There are things worse than spirits that live in the forest. I dare not even mention their names. - Lady Dorothea Duntum, Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)
