Waving the wand of truth shows many things, such as over the gameskeeper Minthrok's head inside Taron’s arena to bring him to the realization he never wanted to be one, or in the Palace Gardens;

You wave the wand of truth around in the garden. To your astonishment, every plant, down to every last blade of grass, is attended to by tiny luminescent creatures with wings. They sing to the plants, infusing them with life. - Eye of Ulos (RPA-ADV4)

Coupled with other objects, the wand allows one to see past events and hidden secrets;

You place the reflective shard in the curled notch of the wand of truth. Taron’s arena vanishes and is replaced by a colosseum from some other world. The crowd roars within. The wand of truth and the reflective shard seem made for each other. When you combine the two, the temple disappears around you, and you find yourself standing atop a snowy mountain peak near the base of a gigantic many-eyed statue.
